2 year check-up!

Olivia was a trooper at her 2 year check-up appointment. Dr. Condon had a lot of questions about her vocabulary, ability to follow directions and athletic prowess. Olivia can kick and throw a ball, speaks up to 4-5 words in a sentence and follows directions (when it pleases her:). Her vocabulary is pretty deep and she does love to talk. Her favorite activity is still reading which is probably why her communication skills are strong. Hopefully this will help us avoid the terrible twos as the pediatrician said that toddlers who are able to communicate sometimes pass over this "milestone" as they are able to communicate their frustrations with words.


Olivia is 32 inches tall and weighs 24 pounds 8 ounces and has a head circumference of 46.5 cm. This puts her weight and head circumference in the 25th percentile which the doctor said is good because she is well balanced--ha ha. She also received her chicken pox vaccine and had some blood drawn to test her iron levels. She is slightly anemic so we are back on the poly-vi-sol. Now that she has hit the 2 year mark, the amount of fat in her diet is not as important so we are done with the whole milk and are venturing into the world of coconut and soy milk for Olivia.


Her favorite foods right now are cheese, pretzels, mum-mums, toast, spinach pancakes, yogurt with Mommy's granola, prunes mixed with oatmeal, and cupcakes (asks for one of these every few days--only because of her birthday celebration!) as well as her squeezy packs of mixed fruits and veggies. I did catch her last week in the pantry in the act of gnawing on some dark chocolate! She tried pushing me out of the closet when I found her. I am not sure how she knew that it was something she would like to eat as she has never seen me eating this chocolate (I eat it at night before I go to bed so she is always in her room) nor has she tasted it to know that chocolate is delicious. I have to keep an eye on her now when she plays in the pantry.

Her favorite activities are reading her books (loves Go Dog Go, Ilama llama home with Mama, Olivia what do you see, Little Blue Truck, Man in the Moon (weird and creepy book about nightmares that was given to us but she always requests...we usually skip the scary parts), and The Giving Tree. She also enjoys going to the park, walking to see the kitty-cats and the pond, playing in the backyard with Dunkin, going to school, watching DVD's (usually only airplanes and long car rides but she is always hoping for a glimpse of Elmo or the Backyardigans), music class, still loves chasing Dunkin with her shopping cart and she received some megaBloks for her birthday and has been enjoying building things.

Over the last month she has begun to socialize more with others. When we get together with friends she shares her toys and "plays" with her friends. She says hello to people we see at the YMCA and grocery store. She talks about her classmates from school--Isaac, Maribelle, Zoe, and Agathe when we are home and often asks about her neighborhood friends--Ellie, Carrington and Jack. Life is just so much fun with her at this age.
