Charleston, Take 2!

We headed down south to Charleston for our last mini-vacation as a family of three. I was a bit nervous about navigating through the city on foot with an independent toddler that does not like to hold hands... but she ended up enjoying riding on Daddy's shoulders and snacking in the stroller whilst in the city.

 We took a nature tram ride through the plantation... not as exciting as a real train which is what I told Olivia we were doing.

 She was showing this little boy how to properly pet the rabbits. This might have been her favorite part of the day... or the three trips to the reptile shed. Nathan thinks she might want to be a herpetologist when she grows up. I think he says this just to make me shiver.

 Look but don't touch is a very hard rule to follow.

 These little stumps are called "knees" and are actually the root system for all of the cedar trees in the swamp. Neat!

 Waiting on the porch for our table to be ready at Husk--top new restaurant in 2011 in the US (according to Bon Appetit). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and Olivia devoured her rolls. Later that evening we got a piece of coconut cake to go from Peninsula Grille--one of the top ten pieces of cake in the US according to Bon Appetit. It was a pretty darn good piece of cake! We definitely did well on the food front this weekend.

 Last stop, South Carolina Aquarium!

 This is the third time we have seen these albino alligators (twice before at the Asheboro Zoo), and they are always creepy!
